This is your Amtrak acquaintance, Jay ...Hi, Susan. This is your Amtrak acquaintance, Jay Myers(from Arizona), from "The Coast Starlight" of last July . . . surfacing after my first semester of grad. school.

As usual, your posting is well written and right on target. I love LAUPT, but it is far too laid back for a major rail station. Amtrak's stations in Chicago, D.C., and Boston are much more "with it" as far as efficiently moving people into and out of their trains. Also, LAUPT does not have nearly enough Red Caps--not something that you as a semi-commuter care much about but something that us transcontinental travelers very much do care about.

As for your identified track-posting-notice problem, I agree entirely. I often have fellow travelers ask me in the tunnel where they need to go. I think the best solution is to post Amtrak employees in the tunnel at the entrances to the ramps up to the Amtrak-assigned tracks (viz., 9, 10, 11, and 12). This is analagous to the airline employees stationed at strategic points in airport concourses directing passengers to their gates. Even ONE employee posted there would be an improvement over the current situation. Amtrak seems to have a spare employee or two roaming around LAUPT.

Anyway, just my two cents' worth.

I hope that you're doing well.

JayJay L Myershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09804246693711879912noreply@blogger.com
